“Purslane Salade Boulangère Recipe" is a pretty, stand-alone watercolor kitchen print celebrating wild and foraged foods found in the backyard but with a French twist.

It’s an illustrated recipe where I combine both ordinary and unusual ingredients, and then painted them with rich watercolor, watercolor pencil, pen and ink. It’s a whimsical take on the original francophone recipe of "Salade Boulangère."

This is what I imagine the entire recipe would look like with the simple addition of an edible and prolific, foraged backyard veggie, such as purslane, formerly considered a “weed,” but now recognized for its deliciousness.

This watercolor illustration showcases the recipe ingredients assembled for putting the recipe together. The second piece in this set is a watercolor painting of the main dish.
