I thought it would be fun to revisit an image in my Gecko and Vèvè collection. I originally created this design for a greeting cards collection.
Ergo, it was meant to be viewed at 5'' x 7''. I'm appreciating anew how some art, maybe because of the intricacies of details and richness of textures, can often hold up spectacularly and (surprisingly so), when blown up at a gigantic scale. Alexander Calder's ginormous art is a little bit like that.
The problem is that at such a scale, all the imperfections and "artistic" accidents in an art piece suddenly stand at attention, ready to be scrutinized. Somehow though, in the end, it all blends in to become a coherent tapestry.
Still tickles me pink remembering that this particular art piece gave me a run for my money when I was coloring it. At the very least it taught me patience. I guess in that sense, it served its purpose.
The Gecko & Vèvè licensing collection completely inspired this iteration, which itself, came from riffing off older work like TaÏno and Tribal Manifesto- two of my favorite pieces.

Public Announcement: This blog post is part of a collection of 354+ posts from my original Wordpress blog "Dreaming Into Being." I've now retired and migrated it to “Wander & Paint,” my new blog post at the United Wanderlust art shop. As time allows, I will be reviewing, condensing, updating and releasing the best of the posts. This may take a long time but they will be available again little by little.
