The Atmospheric Watery Colors of "Sky Mountain"

Artsyshark.com selects the ethereal watercolor painting "Sky Mountain" to feature in a seasonal online group exhibition "Artist Showcase." So exciting!

The fluid colors and mystical mood of this dreamy, watercolor landscape painting always take me back to magical Peru. The Colca Canyon tour I took in Arequipa, introduced me to eerie Patahuasi Stone Forest, located near the Puruña National Park. This voyage produced this original, haunting 18"x 24", fluid landscape painting.

Destination Diaries - "Sky Mountain"

Slow travel lingers and continues to fuel my art and right brain to this day. Through a combination of documentation methods, such as notes, sketches, studies, photographs, stories and the memory of immersive experiences, I attempt to capture the genius loci of places I love. This essence often finds its way, either overtly or in sneaky ways, into both my fine art and my illustrations.

My art, however, has a mind of its own. In "Sky Mountain" for example, I recall the Patahuasi Stone Forest of Peru - which I've personally experienced. However, I also reference Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia, a geological curiosity I've never seen in all my travels to Bolivia. At the time I was way too chicken to attempt the perilous mountain crossings to get to it. The rainy season is no joke.

So, I'm glad that this piece, with all its lingering stories, is getting featured on ArtsyShark.com's Artist Showcase!

Public Announcement: This blog post is part of a collection of 354+ posts from my original Wordpress blog "Dreaming Into Being"  library. I've now retired and migrated it to “Wander & Paint,” my new blog posts at the United Wanderlust art shop.  As time allows, I will be reviewing, editing, condensing, updating and releasing a number of these blog posts but not all of them.

Some posts require more precision surgery than others. I'll also probably be publishing new posts as the muse wills it and father time allows. This whole process may take a while but I think these blog post serve as great documentation of my process and reminds me of certain milestones. So, most of them will be made available again- at some point.
